Lahore: An important Ulema and Mashaikh Conference was organized by the Center of Excellence for Countering Extremism platform organized by the Punjab Home Department,

In which prominent scholars of different schools of thought, great Mashaikhs, educationists, minority leaders and senior officials of security agencies participated.

The conference was chaired by Provincial Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Khawaja Salman Rafique, while Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, Secretary Auqaf Dr. Ehsan Bhatta, National Coordinator NACTA Jawad Ahmed Dogar, Chairman National Rehmatul-il-Aalamin wa Khatam-un-Nabiyeen Authority Dr. Khurshid Nadeem, Vice Chancellor of Narowal University Dr. Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, Dr. Ahmed Shahzad and Chairman of the Forum for International Relations Development Dr. Taha Qureshi MBE from the UK and many other important personalities participated. The main objective of the conference was to formulate a joint strategy for the promotion of peace, tolerance, interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence in the society. The participants emphasized that scholars, educational institutions, religious leadership and state institutions must play their role in mutual cooperation to eliminate extremism and hateful attitudes.
On this occasion, Taha Qureshi also answered questions from the participants. The speakers said in their speeches that Pakistan is a multicultural and multi-religious society, where tolerance, respect for humanity and adherence to the constitution and law are the guarantee of national stability and development. They also stressed the need for effective measures at the educational and intellectual levels to protect the young generation from extremist ideologies. Provincial Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said in his speech that the Punjab government is taking serious steps to establish peace and order and eliminate extremism. He said that scholars and Mashaikhs can play a key role in promoting positive thinking, moderation and brotherhood in the society and the government is working with all religious and social groups in this regard. During the conference, the participants expressed their determination that joint efforts will be continued to promote unity, harmony and tolerance in the society so that Pakistan can move further on the path of peace, stability and development. On this occasion, Deputy Coordination Officer Dr. Ahmed Khawar Shahzad performed the duties of the moderator and effectively carried out the proceedings of the various sessions of the conference. At the end of the conference, a special prayer was also offered for the security, stability, religious harmony and national unity of the country.
