(Dundee, Scotland) Prominent community leader and Labour Party member Fakhar Iqbal Chaudhry has condemned the detention of Lara Bird MP, Kate Nevens MSP and Clive Lewis MP by Israeli authorities and their refusal of entry to the occupied West Bank.
He said the delegation, including Bird, whose constituency covers Broughty Ferry, demonstrated cross-party solidarity with Palestinians. Condemning the devastation in Gaza as genocide, he called for accountability for war crimes and action against settler violence and oppression under Israeli occupation.
Chaudhry welcomed the Foreign Secretary’s sanctions against extremist Israeli settlers and proposed measures targeting illegal settlements, but urged stronger action to protect civilians, ensure unhindered humanitarian access and support international accountability.
He expressed solidarity with the detained parliamentarians and said Dundee and Scotland must continue speaking up for Palestinian freedom, justice and dignity.
