The East India Company was defeated by Sultan Tipu and they considered the state of Mysore as a major threat to them. Using the religious card against the spread of the word and spread everywhere that Tipu Sultan has become a Wahhabi. Hundreds of fatwas were taken from the “Muftis” of Hyderabad state that Tipu Sultan, the son of Sufi Haider Ali has become a Wahhabi and now it is obligatory to fight against him. He who participates will be rewarded. So when the East India Company joined forces with the Marhats and the Nizam of Hyderabad to invade Mysore, they were joined by the Muslim warriors who had come to fight Sultan Tipu for the sake of the reward. The most interesting thing is that at the same time there were three separate announcements in three states. Somewhere the announcement was being made. Tipu has become Wahhabi and somewhere it was being preached. Tipu has become Shia. It was announced where it was needed.It should be noted that a similar fatwa was issued against the Ottoman Sultan a year and a half later when Muslim troops were needed from the subcontinent to fight the Turks and these soldiers did not realize that the British were invading the Ottoman Empire and the Caliph.
