Manchester: Efforts to unite Manchester’s Pakistani journalist organisations have failed after nearly a year of negotiations, and a detailed mediation report has now been submitted to the Consulate General of Pakistan in Manchester.
According to details, after assuming office, Consul General of Pakistan Imtiaz Feroz Gondal expressed his desire to promote unity within the local Pakistani community, including bringing together the city’s divided journalist organisations. A joint meeting of representatives from both organisations was convened as part of this initiative.
Manchester’s Pakistani journalist community is currently divided into two groups: Press Club of Pakistan UK Limited (Ijaz Afzal Sheikh Group) and Pakistan Press Club UK (Mehboob Elahi Butt Group).
With the agreement of both sides, senior Manchester community leader and accountant Rasib Khan was appointed as mediator. He continued negotiations and consultations between the two organisations for almost a year, but the efforts ultimately failed to produce a unified organisation.
Rasib Khan met with Consul General Imtiaz Feroz Gondal and formally submitted his report on the mediation process. He said the report contains a comprehensive account of the establishment of the journalist organisations in Manchester, the history of their differences, and the underlying reasons behind the divisions.
He described the report as a historical document, emphasising that it does not assign blame to any individual or group. “History itself will ultimately judge the matter,” he said.
The report has now been formally placed on record with the Pakistani Consulate in Manchester.
