Many congratulations to Dr Afzal Javed for the above award. He is a kemcolian of batch 1976 and a Consultant Psychiatrist & Honorary Professor at Institute of Applied Health Research, University of Birmingham & Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick UK.

His role in international psychiatry is highlighted by his involvement with several professional organisations. He is currently working as:

• President World Psychiatric Association (WPA)

• Chairman Pakistan Psychiatric Research Centre, Fountain House, Lahore, Pakistan

• Founder and co-ordinator Midland Psychiatric Research Centre, UK

In addition, to clinical skills and work as a consultant psychiatrist for more than 40 years, he has developed special interest in Teaching, Training and Research. He held University appointments for more than 30 years both in UK & Pakistan (at KE & Nishtar Medical Colleges). He has been actively involved in teaching and training postgraduate students and internees in the speciality of psychiatry. His work involved teaching both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Students in many national and overseas universities. The Postgraduate teaching experience also includes supervision of high degree students enrolled for M.D./ Ph D in psychiatry and working as an examiner in several universities around the globe.

His academic skills have been invaluable when publishing more than 150 scientific papers in peer reviewed academic journals that were drawn from the knowledge gained from his academic & clinical skills.

Dr Afzal Javed certainly makes us all very proud as Kemcolians and wish him all the best for his phenomenal work in teaching, training and leading the world psychiatry association.
