According to Ug News Media Europe,In Georgia, the birthday of the Prophet Jesus – the Christmas holiday was celebrated with the “Alilo” procession.Ug news Media Europe reports that the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Mayor of Tbilisi and other officials participated in the Christmas liturgy in Orthodox temples on January 6, starting at 11:00 p.m. Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia the Second performed the worship and prayer ceremony.On January 7, at 14:00, the traditional “Alilo” procession started from Republic Square in Tbilisi. On Rustaveli Avenue, in front of the building of the Parliament and the Tbilisi City Hall, members of the state and government, deputies greeted the participants of the march and presented gifts.On Rustaveli Avenue, Azadlig Square, above the Baratashvili Bridge, local residents and guests of the city gave gifts and sweets to the participants of the long march through the streets.The collected aid will be distributed to homeless, lonely and needy people.The Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia greeted and blessed the participants in the Church of Saint Troitsa. The participants presented sweets to Patriarch Iliya II.With that, the holiday events of Orthodox Christians in Georgia have ended.
It should be noted that the “Alilo” holiday has been celebrated in Georgia since the 14th century. However, the celebration of this holiday was prohibited for some time. The Georgian people have been celebrating this holiday since 2000.
