According to Ug News Media Europe,the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, had a telephone conversation with Karen Donfried, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs of the United States of America.According to the information provided to Ug NewsMedia Europe by the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the conversation, the parties discussed the agenda of cooperation between the two countries and the current situation in the region.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov drew attention to the fact that despite a number of constructive initiatives of the Azerbaijani side regarding the normalization of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations in the post-conflict period, the process has been obstructed by Armenia on a continuous basis with various provocations. It was noted that the legitimate demands of the protest action of the Azerbaijani civil society on the Lachin road against the illegal activities that have been intensified during the nearly 30-year occupation of our territories have not yet been fulfilled.Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that the claims about the “blockade” of Armenian residents and the creation of a “humanitarian disaster” in the region as a result of the closure of the Lachin road by Azerbaijan are completely unfounded. It has been reported that a large number of International Committee of the Red Cross, Russian peacekeeping contingent and other humanitarian vehicles use the road on a daily basis.Despite the statements of the Azerbaijani side that there are no obstacles to the free movement of Armenian residents using the road, and that they intend to provide assistance to Armenians if necessary, the fact that people who present themselves as leaders of local Armenians are against the use of the road by the population has been brought to attention.
