I am very happy that I have benefited from the recommendations of such a historical figure during my various positions.These words were said by former governor of Georgia’s Kvemo-Kartli region, political scientist Levan Mamaledze in an interview with Ug News Media Europe.
According to him, Heydar Aliyev is the architect of the modern independent state of Azerbaijan. It was Heydar Aliyev’s return from Nakhchivan to Baku in the early 1990s that put an end to the turmoil prevailing in Azerbaijan:The people of Azerbaijan are happy that they had such an outstanding leader who saved their people from the current political tension and division.
Upon his return to Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev established a strong state and established democratic principles in the country. He brought the corridor between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea into a new political arena with his purposeful activity.Heydar Aliyev played an exceptional role in making Azerbaijan’s oil and gas resources known to the whole world.L. Mamaladze, who was in close contact with Azerbaijan in his youth, was elected a deputy of the Georgian Parliament in 1992 at the age of 23 and became the head of the Georgia-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary commission. Recalling those days, L. Mamaladze said: After the governor of Kvemo-Kartli was determined, our main goal was to prevent our compatriots from migrating to Azerbaijan from Georgia. I tried to visit every Azerbaijani family. I tried to explain to them that Georgia is also the homeland of every Azerbaijani. This internal policy of ours was highly appreciated by the state of Azerbaijan and the mutual trust between us also strengthened. With the leadership of Heydar Aliyev, a special, unique relationship was formed between the two countries.According to him, there were some problems at that time. Thus, at that time, the citizens of Georgia, more precisely, the residents of the village of Sadakhli, were arrested by the Armenians and called terrorists when they traded with Armenia.The Georgian government took serious action to release Azerbaijani citizens from prison and released them.When I met Heydar Aliyev, he always asked, ‘Young man, how are you, how are you doing?’ he would say. I remember that when a tree planting ceremony was held in Baku, he called me and gave me a seedling and said, “You should plant your own tree next to my tree.” I believe that the seedlings we planted next to each other have already turned into trees with big trunks and branches,” L. Mamaladze recalls those days.
Recalling Heydar Aliyev’s visit to Georgia in 1998, L. Mamaladze said: “During that visit, I also participated in the farewell ceremony.Heydar Aliyev saw me and told Eduard Shevarnadze, “this young man has done great things for Azerbaijan.” At that time, I was supposed to move to another job. Of course, after Heydar Aliyev’s words, I stayed at my post.Mamaladze said that during the Soviet era, the Rustavi metallurgical plant produced iron from mining ores brought from Dashkasan deposits. These relations were severed in the first years of our independence. E.Shevarnadze ordered that the old relations be restored and the iron pipes produced from the raw materials of that mine be used in the operation of oil pipelines.
“I visited Baku with a large delegation regarding the solution of this issue.Heydar Aliyev received us in his room.We decided that these pipes, which are manufactured in Rustavi, should be used for oil and gas transportation.After the meeting, everyone left the room, he suddenly stopped me and took my hand and said:I thank you on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan for the work you have done,” Mamaladze emphasized.
Emphasizing that he always remembers the words of the national leader, Mamaladze noted:”Heydar Aliyev was a truly outstanding political figure.”
The former governor also said that the Great Leader never neglected anyone from the delegation during our visit.L. Mamaladze said in the end: “Today, President Ilham Aliyev is properly continuing the political course of Heydar Aliyev.He restored the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. I would say that President Ilham Aliyev is a leader who plays a major political role in further strengthening the state created by Heydar Aliyev. The people of Azerbaijan are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev.This distinguished person, who was very gentle and simple in his personal relationship, was also a political figure who attached great importance to friendship with Georgia, and treated the Georgian people with great respect and reverence.
