According to Ug NewsMedia Europe,Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called on the world community to accelerate the development of new vaccines against tuberculosis.”Ug News Media Europe” informs that the CEO said this during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The head of the WHO reminded that the currently available licensed tuberculosis vaccine was created 100 years ago. In his opinion, the international community should learn from the pandemic:
“While the work on more effective vaccines compared to the BCG vaccine is lagging behind, the vaccine against the coronavirus was quickly achieved. 16 vaccines are currently in the works and can be accelerated with the participation of governments, business, science and civil society.
There is a proposal to create some kind of council or some other structure to speed up the development of TB vaccines, and that could speed up the development of vaccines. What is needed now is a renewed commitment to TB vaccine development, real action with a sense of urgency and confidence that we can do it.
