According to Ug news Media Europe,The energy demand of European countries, including Serbia, is increasing day by day, and Azerbaijani gas will become an additional source to meet Serbia’s demand.Stevan Gajic, a Serbian political scientist and researcher at the Institute of European Studies, said this in his statement to “Ug News Media Europe.”Serbia’s economy and industry need more energy, the demand is constantly increasing, so it is very nice to have Azerbaijani gas,” he said.
According to him, the construction of the Serbia-Bulgaria Interconnector, access to energy carriers from new sources, including Caspian gas delivered to Europe through the Southern Gas Corridor, will deepen the partnership between Azerbaijan and Serbia.
“We don’t know what will happen in Eastern Europe after the Russia-Ukraine war, what NATO might think about pipelines, so it’s good to have more than one source of natural gas. From this point of view, Serbia considers Azerbaijan a reliable partner”, said S. Gayich, adding that this partnership has good prospects for expansion.
As for the interconnector between Serbia and Bulgaria, according to the expert, this project is mainly implemented by the European Union and Serbia already has resources for gas supply. Thus, the “Turkish Stream” gas pipeline, which is essentially a rebranding of “South Stream”, delivers gas to Bulgaria, and from there the gas can be transported to Serbia through a connecting pipe.”Of course, Serbia should have alternative resources. It is good that this interconnector with Bulgaria is being created in the country, and there are other pipelines, for example, the oil pipeline that passes through Hungary and is part of the old Drujba oil pipeline through the territory of Ukraine, as well as the recently commissioned “Turkish Stream”, – S. Gayiç concluded his opinion.
