Parvin Karimzade, deputy of the Milli Majlis, member of the YAP Board of Directors, said these thoughts in his statement to Ug News Europe.The deputy said that mutually beneficial relations with the Republic of Italy occupy an important place in the course of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. The two countries are connected by strong traditions of friendship and cooperation. The relations of the parties have the character of a mutually beneficial partnership, based on the principles of respect for each other’s interests. Mutual visits of the heads of both countries give a great impetus to the development of relations. In general, relations between Azerbaijan and Italy are at the level of strategic partnership. Italy is the main political, economic and trade partner of Azerbaijan among the member states of the European Union. Italy is Azerbaijan’s first trade and export partner in Europe. Azerbaijan is Italy’s largest trade partner among the countries of the South Caucasus. Azerbaijan accounts for approximately 90 percent of Italy’s trade in this region. Currently, more than 100 Italian companies are operating in Azerbaijan in industry, construction, trade, agriculture, communication, service and other fields. President Ilham Aliyev’s business visit to Italy in September last year was an important event in terms of further development of relations.”One of the most important points is that during the 30-year occupation of Armenia, Italy always supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. In the “Joint Declaration on Strengthening Multidimensional Strategic Partnership” signed during the state visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Italy in February 2020, Azerbaijan and Italy reaffirmed their support for each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and internationally recognized borders. The document contains an unequivocal position regarding the resolution of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict based on these principles.
