Rome, Report by:Nihad Budagov
According to Ug News,It has been said that the drought experienced in Italy due to the lack of precipitation in the winter months may lead to the application of water cuts to millions of people in the coming period.Ug News reports that the head of the ANBI consortium responsible for water resources in the country, Francesco Vincenzi, said that according to the latest information, water cuts will be applied to at least 3.5 million Italians in the coming months. He noted that the water level in the Po River, the country’s largest river and main water source, has dropped to a record level.Between 6 and 15 percent of Italy’s population is reported to live in areas subject to severe or extreme drought. The water level in the lakes and rivers in the northern and central regions of the country has decreased sharply, and the height of the snow cover in the Alps is 53 percent lower than the average of the last 10 years.Due to the decrease in precipitation and the withdrawal of sea water, the water level in some canals of Venice, famous for its canals, has decreased by 50-60 centimeters, and the movement of boats and water taxis has become impossible. It should be recalled that last summer in Italy, the worst drought of the last 70 years was experienced, and as a result, losses of at least 6 billion euros were registered in the agricultural sector.
