Telemedicine Initiative to Combat Maternal and Child Mortality in Rural Sindh

Hyderabad:(Report by Rukhsar Butt) According to UG news UK United kingdom,In a bold and compassionate move to address the alarming rates of maternal and under-five child mortality in rural Sindh, Dr. Shireen Shah, a seasoned physician and public health advocate, has announced her voluntary leadership of a province-wide telemedicine initiative. This effort aims to support Pakistan’s commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to health and well-being. With over 15 years of experience in clinical medicine, community health, and health systems innovation, Dr. Shah is offering her expertise to lead a dedicated team of medical assistants in providing 24/7 telemedicine support to Basic Health Units (BHUs), Tehsil Headquarters (THQs), and District Headquarters (DHQs) across Sindh.

This is not just a service—it’s a moral imperative,” said Dr. Shah. “We must act now to save lives and empower communities. Telemedicine can bridge the gap between underserved populations and timely, quality care.”

As a bilingual practitioner fluent in both Urdu and Sindhi, Dr. Shah is uniquely positioned to engage local communities, raise awareness, and foster grassroots empowerment.
