Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has appointed Javed Iqbal as Overseas Advisor, recognising his distinguished record of public service, political leadership and commitment to overseas communities.
Mr Jawaid Iqbal had previously served as Advisor to the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from June 2022 to May 2023, during which time he advised on strategic issues related to the inclusion and international outreach of the overseas Kashmiri community.
In the UK, Jawaid Iqbal made history as the first Asian councillor in Oldham to significantly advance representation and inclusion in local government. His 12-year tenure as a district councillor was marked by strong advocacy for community cohesion, equality and public service.
Commenting on his appointment, Jawaid Iqbal said, “I am very proud to be appointed as Overseas Advisor by Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore. I look forward to working closely with the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir to strengthen ties with overseas Kashmiris and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. This appointment reflects the continued importance that the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir attaches to engaging overseas Kashmiris and benefiting from their experience, expertise and global connections.”
