
Pro-Palestinian independent Naveed Chauhan won the safe Labor seat in Oldham’s Waterhead ward
Labor is no longer the majority party on Oldham Council after thirteen years.
Oldham (Tanveer Khatana) Naveed Chauhan, a pro-ceasefire candidate in Palestine, has been declared successful in the local elections of Waterhead, which is considered the safest seat of Oldham Council for the past thirty years. Naveed Chauhan has defeated Labor councilor Ross Birch by a lead of around four hundred votes. Naveed Chauhan said after the election victory that I am grateful to all the voters and supporters of my wards. I am aware of the problems of my ward and in the very first council meeting I will present a plan to solve these problems. On the other hand, Labor has lost control of Oldham Council after thirteen years. Other Oldham Group candidates have also won the safest Labor seats, in which Aqeel Salamat has faced a big defeat from Ayesha Kausar. After the local elections, Labor now holds twenty-six seats on Oldham Council.
