Similarly, the first Pakistani Muslim woman of the British city of Bury, Shahina Haroon, was elected mayor and is still a councillor. Her husband Major Haroon has served in the Pakistani army. And her daughter Ayesha Arif is also serving as a councillor from Bury and has been running the Bury Active Women’s Centre for the past twenty-six years to serve the community in Bury, in which classes of various types of courses are run. For many years now, her daughter Councillor Ayesha Arif has also been helping her.
