A group of independent members of Oldham Council has launched an election campaign to participate fully in the local council general elections to be held in May 2026.

The launch of the election campaign for the highly active member from St. Mary’s ward, Shah Bahram Chaudhry, was attended by the group leader and Oldham Council Opposition Leader Kamran Ghaffar, Chairman Riffat Hussain Chaudhry, former Mayor Councillor Shoaib Akhtar, prominent community figures Raja Maqsood Hussain Kakarvi and Raja Sajawal Hussain, Haji Nazar Hussain Siyana, Councillor Naila Ibrahim – Councillor Naveed Chauhan – Councillor Zaheer – Rajubhai – Chaudhry Imtiaz – Chaudhry Arif – former Councillor Chaudhry Khizr-ur-Rehman – Raja Najeeb – Raja Zulfiqar – Chaudhry Bashir – Chaudhry Zulfiqar. Group leader Kamran Ghafoor, who plays an active role as the opposition leader in Oldham Council, said that the Oldham Group will surprise everyone in the upcoming local council elections. Our candidates will win the elections, become councilors and serve the community to the fullest. Shah Bahram, a councilor candidate from Oldham Group St. Mary’s Ward, said that the current Labor Party government in Oldham Council implements the party’s policy from the center and is not aware of the needs of the community at the local level, while our group is free to make its own decisions. We will try to ensure that as many candidates as possible are successful in the upcoming general elections so that we can formulate a strategy to provide better facilities to the community. Former Mayor Councilor Shoaib Akhtar said that just as the election campaign of our candidate Shah Bahram has started today, if the campaign continues in this manner, Shah Bahram’s success is certain. Raja Maqsood Hussain Kakarvi said that seeing the enthusiasm of the youth, it seems that the Oldham Group will achieve great success in the upcoming general elections. Chairman Riffat Hussain and Raja Sujawal Hussain – Rajubhai assured the success of the Oldham Group candidates from St. Mary’s Ward and other wards of Oldham and their support. Councillor Naila Ibrahim and Councillor Naveed Chauhan and Councillor Zaheer appealed to the community to make the Oldham Group candidates successful, saying that we will bring revolutionary changes to provide better facilities to the local population. Other people who participated in the election campaign also assured the Oldham Group of their full support.
