According to Ug News,On February 26, commemorative events dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the Khojaly genocide were held in the southern region, as in all parts of our country.Ug News regional correspondent reports that the victims of the tragedy were commemorated with deep sadness in Lankaran, Masalli, Jalilabad, Lerik and Yardimli regions.
Officials of the executive authorities, law enforcement agencies, heads of departments, enterprises and organizations, public representatives, and personnel of military units took part in the commemoration ceremony.In connection with the anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, commemorative nights, art and book exhibitions were organized in administrations, enterprises and organizations, educational and cultural institutions of the southern regions. In the commemorative events, it was emphasized that on the night of February 25-26, 1992, Armenian armed forces committed genocide against Azerbaijanis by attacking the city of Khojaly with the help of the heavy equipment and personnel of the 366th motorized rifle regiment of the former Soviet army located in the city of Khankendi. In one night, the city was burned, destroyed and looted, and the civilian population was mercilessly killed.613 people were killed with special cruelty and torture. 106 of them were women, 63 were children, and 70 were elderly. 8 families were completely destroyed, 25 children lost both parents, 130 children lost one of their parents. 487 people, including 76 children, were seriously injured.1275 people were taken hostage. The fate of 150 hostages is still unknown.These numbers reflect the bloodiest page of Armenia’s genocide policy against Azerbaijan, carried out in stages since 1988.
