A grand annual Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ Conference was held at Bilal Jamia Masjid, Oldham, on Sunday evening, bringing together Islamic scholars, community leaders, Naat reciters, social and political figures and a large gathering of Muslims from across Greater Manchester and surrounding areas.
The conference was held under the patronage of Allama Sahibzada Muhammad Tahir Baghdadi, Head Imam, Khateeb and Teacher at Bilal Jamia Masjid Oldham, and was presided over by Allama Maulana Qari Syed Abdul Shakoor Qadri, a prominent figure within the Oldham Muslim community.
Distinguished guests included Qari Naseer Ahmad Qadri, Syed Talib Hussain Shah Gilani, Qari Muhammad Aslam Sialvi, Founder of Jamia Shamsia Qamar-ul-Uloom Oldham, Engineer Haji Muhammad Arshad of Minhaj-ul-Quran Oldham, Haji Muhammad Bashir Jamaati of Ameer-e-Millat Trust North West, and representatives of mosques, madrasas and community organisations from across the region.
The programme commenced with a soulful recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Qari Umar Draz Khan Anwar from Khushab, Pakistan, followed by Naat recitations by Aamir Iqbal and Hafiz Ahsan Tahir.
Sahibzada Allama Imam Muhammad Irfan Chishti from Rochdale delivered an address on the Seerah and noble character of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, emphasising the importance of Muslims contributing to a peaceful society through exemplary character and conduct.
Renowned Naat reciter and presenter Fareed Aslam Sultani from Derby also presented devotional poetry, while internationally recognised Naat reciter and QTV and ARY presenter Al-Haj Muhammad Afzal Naushahi captivated the gathering with Hamd, remembrance of Allah, Naat and Sufi poetry.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Mufti Muhammad Amjad Ali Sani, a distinguished Islamic scholar from Pakistan and Professor at Rifah International University, Lahore. He highlighted the importance of not only expressing love for the Holy Prophet ﷺ but also making the Fikr-e-Rasool ﷺ — the values and teachings of the Prophet ﷺ — a practical part of everyday life.
He stressed that Muslims should become exemplary followers of the Prophet of Mercy ﷺ by demonstrating honesty, integrity, trustworthiness and excellent character towards people of all backgrounds.
Maulana Mufti Muhammad Azam Naqshbandi, Imam and Khateeb of Bilal Jamia Masjid Oldham, also delivered a special message on the significance of Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ.
Speaking during the conference, Allama Sahibzada Muhammad Tahir Baghdadi said that Muslims in Britain are an important part of the country’s multicultural society and should celebrate the blessed Milad of the Prophet ﷺ in a manner that reflects his noble character through their actions and dealings.
He further emphasised that the conference was organised to strengthen the younger generation’s connection with the Holy Prophet ﷺ and encourage them to adopt his exemplary way of life.
The event concluded with Durood-o-Salam and a special Dua led by Professor Mufti Muhammad Amjad Ali Sani, with prayers for the unity and progress of the Muslim Ummah, Pakistan, Kashmir, Gaza and Palestine, and Muslims around the world. Prayers were also offered for unity, harmony and brotherhood within the Muslim community in Oldham and across Britain.
The conference was attended by representatives of different sections of the Muslim community from across Greater Manchester, a feature that was widely appreciated as a positive example of community unity and cooperation.
The event was successfully organised with the support of Haji Muhammad Aslam, Chairman of the Administration Committee, together with Sodagar Hussain, Haji Abdul Ghafoor, Qasim Masood, Sajid Hanif, Haji Waseem Iqbal, Umair Ahmad, Musa Iqbal and other volunteers.
The hall and stage were beautifully decorated with Green Dome banners, flowers and green and white decorations. Following the Isha prayer, a special Milad reception was arranged for guests and attendees.
The conference concluded with a renewed message of love for the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, commitment to his Seerah, peace, unity, mutual respect and brotherhood.
