British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced that he is resigning as Prime Minister and as leader of the country’s ruling Labour Party. Demands for Keir Starmer’s resignation gained momentum after the results of local council elections in Britain in May this year. These results rocked British politics and the country’s ruling Labour Party came in third place.
Despite his disappointing performance in the elections, Keir Starmer refused to resign at the time. Speaking to the media, he said, “I will not leave the country in chaos and will complete my five-year term.”
However, pressure on Stamer to resign was growing after his Labour Party rival and former Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham won the Makerfield by-election last week.
Nawa-e-Waqt broke the news last week of Keir Starmer’s resignation as Prime Minister and Andy Burnham’s appointment as the new Prime Minister.
