In the British city of Oldham, Chaudhry Riaz Ahmed, who was elected as a councilor in the nineties and later became the first Asian mayor of Oldham Council, was awarded the borough’s highest honor of Honorary Aldermanship by Oldham Council in recognition of his community and political services. A grand ceremony was held in the Council Chamber, in which Mayor Councillor Pam Burn, former council leader Councillor Urooj Shah, Councillors Sajid Khadim, Junaid Hussain, Nosheen Omar, former Councillor Yasmin Toor, Youth Mayor Hassan Ali Chaudhry Riaz Ahmed’s elder brother Haji Saleem, family, Deputy Chief Executive Mike Barker, Director of Legal Alex and Bernard Judge, who received the honor of second Honorary Alderman, and others participated. Chaudhry Riaz Ahmed said that the honor of Alderman is a matter of pride and the credit goes to the community of Oldham who have stood by him since the nineties. He had the opportunity to perform his services in an interfaith and cultural society and this would not have been possible without the support of his family. Former council leader Urooj Shah and Mayor Councillor Pam Burn and others also congratulated him and said that his services to the community are commendable, which is why he was awarded the award. Chaudhry Riaz Ahmed, who was elected as the first Asian councillor and mayor of Oldham Council, has made political, social and community services in British society a matter of pride and praise for the Pakistani and Kashmiri community living in Oldham.
