Quetta:(Report by Aysha Akbar) According to global Times news Agency Europe, Ms.Abishay Basharat is the first Pakistani Christian transgender woman.She is not only from a double minority background, but she is also the first transgender to live with her family, including her sister, brother, and Beloved Mother. She is the older of her siblings. The brave trans woman is located in Balochistan Quetta, also known as the Tribal area, where women’s survival is extremely difficult. Even in the twenty-first century, women are still murdered by their brothers and fathers if they say no to going out to study in that environment. She has become the voice of women, the transgender community, and minority women. Where women still can’t go outside without their brother, father, and husband permission, or they don’t go outside with any male alone because there are many challenges faced by women, but she is the first transgender woman to graduate from Balochistan University of information technology engineering and management sciences (BUITEMS).She completed her BS Fine Arts degree. Throughout her study, people bullied her because of her gender identification. She was threatened, but she never gave up and has the guts to become the voice of a vulnerable group. After graduation, she became the focal person for the transgender community in Balochistan, overseeing all matters involving marginalised minorities. She owns and operates Trans United and PWD Group. Where numerous transgender activists in Pakistan are working together, persons with disabilities are also included. She is a change maker who promotes the transgender community through her activism. After that, she was hired as a project supervisor at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) IBBS Round 6. And she becomes the most prominent personality in Balochistan.Balochistan is the most ignored province of Pakistan, where no one wants to work for marginalised groups because of security threats, but she was offered by the police department to join the police department as a Victim Support Officer, and she accepted that offer because she wanted to have power, authority, and security so that she could easily work for the transgender community in Balochistan.Right now, she is working at the Women and Juvenile Facilitation Centre as a Victim Support Officer. It was a great honour for everyone to see the police department make a difference in the lives of underprivileged people by incorporating them within the department.
With her success, every district in Pakistan now has Tahafuz centres for the transgender community, and transgender police officers serve there.
Abishay Basharat’s main motivation throughout her journey has been to work for her community and show the exact image of how marginalised groups face problems in their daily lives and how people continue to ignore them. She is also a policymaker, and she has filed a petition against the Federal Shariat Court at the Supreme Court. The Transgender Protection Act 2018 Bill has been contested, and their fundamental rights are at risk. She is the one who takes the initiative to stand up for her community.Her family has been the most supportive throughout her journey, especially her mother, who is overjoyed to see her Trans daughter making her proud.
