According to Ug News news Agency Europe, The appeal of the West Azerbaijan Community to UNESCO was first published as an official document of the UN, and then an official response to the appeal came from UNESCO. A fact-finding mission was requested to be sent to Armenia. What was this mission asked to investigate? What historical and cultural monuments do we have in Western Azerbaijan?
Spokesperson of the West Azerbaijan Community Ulviyya Zulfiqar “The Ug News Europe”In response to the request, he said that this mission was requested to assess the state of our cultural heritage, which was destroyed in the ancestral homeland of Azerbaijanis and presented as belonging to other countries: drew attention to the facts of massive destruction of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in the territory of present-day Armenia and asked to send a fact-finding mission to Armenia to assess the situation in this area. The appeal was circulated by the UN Secretariat as an official document of the UN Security Council, the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council, followed by a reply from UNESCO stating that The issue raised by the community is directly related to UNESCO’s mandate and is being dealt with closely using appropriate mechanisms in this field. This mission was requested to assess the state of our cultural heritage, which was destroyed in our ancestral homeland and presented as belonging to other countries. The intellectuals of our Community also have extensive research on the thousands of examples of our rich cultural heritage that have been destroyed and are being destroyed in the territory of today’s Armenia. There is extensive information about this in the researches of the Chairman of the Community, MP Aziz Alakbarli, members of the Board of Directors Nazim Mustafa, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Ibrahim Bayramov, Doctor of Philology and other valuable intellectuals. About 310 Azerbaijani mosques existed in the territory of Iravan Governorate. In the city of Yerevan itself, Demirbulag, Haji Novruzalibey Mosque, Sardar Mosques, Tepebaşi neighborhood and Tepebaşı Mosque, which were ordered to be demolished, and the Blue Mosque, Emir Saad Mausoleum, which were presented as belonging to another country, were destroyed. Other mosques also suffered the same fate. The attitude towards these monuments expresses the attitude towards the world cultural heritage, because every monument is a part of human history. The spokesman reminded that about the Blue Mosque, which is presented as a Persian mosqueBritish researcher Thomas De Waal also has ideas:De Waal said about this that, “The fact that the Armenians so easily wiped out the mosque belonging to the Azerbaijanis can be explained by a linguistic game. When they talk about the “Persian mosque” in Yerevan, they want to forget by saying “Persian” that it was Azerbaijanis who prayed in this mosque since 1760. A large number of historical monuments, fortresses, caravansaries, tombstones, as well as cemeteries of Azerbaijanis were destroyed, including in Western Azerbaijan. Iravan Castle, Sardar Palace, Shah Abbas Caravanserai, Agadeda Cemetery, Saral Cemetery, and Lower Shorja Cemetery are among those listed. In the village of Aghkilsa in Western Azerbaijan, the gravestone monument of Ashiq Alasgar, one of the pillars of our Ashiq art, built in 1972 and dedicated to his 150th anniversary, was demolished. This is the art of Ashiq, which was included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. It is precisely because of these facts that the answer to us said that the mentioned issues are directly related to the mandate of UNESCO. The Western Azerbaijan Community will continue its dialogue and interaction with UNESCO within the framework of international legal norms and mechanisms to stop the destruction of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in Armenia and to restore what was destroyed.
