Manchester: The All Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA) Manchester organized a grand and dignified farewell reception in honour of the Consul General of Pakistan in Manchester, Mr. Tariq Wazir. The event was attended by a large number of prominent figures from the community, including social workers, literary personalities, political leaders, and business professionals.
The ceremony was jointly hosted by APWA General Secretary Mrs. Sabra Naheed and Joint Secretary Mrs. Razia Balim. The programme commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Maryam Nadeem, followed by the national anthem of Pakistan.
In her welcome address, General Secretary Sabra Naheed warmly greeted Mr. and Mrs. Tariq Wazir and all distinguished guests. She extended her gratitude to the media and acknowledged the dedicated contributions of Mrs. Nazia Tariq, praising her for her active involvement with APWA over the past five years and for always sharing valuable suggestions.
She also thanked Consul General Tariq Wazir for his continuous support, noting how he generously provided APWA with his meeting room and hosted members with refreshments and sincere guidance. She added that he showed equal respect and kindness to everyone in the Manchester community, and his services would always be remembered.
Joint Secretary Mrs. Razia Balim then introduced APWA Chairperson Mrs. Nazia Tariq, who was invited on stage with a warm round of applause. In her speech, Mrs. Nazia Tariq thanked all guests for their presence and reflected on her five-year journey with APWA, during which she was given immense respect and opportunities to lead several successful initiatives.
Vice Chairperson Mrs. Abida Ghaznavi expressed her gratitude to the Consul General, stating that he played a key role in supporting APWA and the wider community with honesty, sincerity, and tireless service—day and night. She also praised Chairperson Nazia Tariq for her leadership and collaboration with the executive members in strengthening APWA.
General Attache Ms. Misbah Noreen said she had learned a great deal from the Consul General. Other speakers, including Dr. Liaqat Malik, Barrister Amjad Malik, and Mr. Aneel Musarrat, also paid tribute to Mr. Tariq Wazir’s dedicated service to the Pakistani community in Manchester. They highlighted his selfless commitment, honesty, and sincere efforts over the past five years.
Towards the end of the programme, the General Secretary invited Consul General Tariq Wazir to the stage, requesting all attendees to rise in recognition of his services. The audience responded with a loud and heartfelt round of applause.
In his farewell remarks, Mr. Tariq Wazir expressed his gratitude to APWA and the entire community. He described his time in Manchester as one of the most memorable chapters of his life. He encouraged the community to focus on collective progress, particularly in promoting English language skills among the youth. He praised APWA as a powerful platform for empowering women and thanked the media and performers for their contributions.
Special recognition was given to Naheed Chaudhry, Abida Ghaznavi, Razia Balim, and the entire APWA team for their excellent organization and meticulous planning, which made the event a resounding success.
