Nigeria(International Desk):According to ug news Media Europe, Mohammed Hassan Adamu, the Special Monitoring Mission International Human Rights Commission commemorated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls in Borno State, Maiduguri with Community and Religious Leaders, Women Groups, and Representatives of Civil Society Organizations on 25th November 2022.
Highlights of the one-day event which took place at Ramat Street Damboa Road Maiduguri, are sensitizations and focused group discussion urging the public to discourage every form of violence against women and girls, break the silence, show support by building a community that is ready to end sexual and gender-based violence.
Emphasizing, Comr. Mohammed Hassan charged women to prioritize education so that they can be able to face challenges and stand a better chance to be less intimidated or abused.“The main goal was also to end the orthodox traditions like violence against girl children, rape, forced marriage, denial of ancestral rights, etc. “Our time is now – our rights, our future”, he added.Comr. Mohammed further distributed a copy of a CD containing sensitization topics on human trafficking, the effect of drug abuse and how they can protect themselves from violence, etc
