According to ug news Media Europe,Iran’s military elite is divided over the issue of suppressing protests that have been going on for several months in the country. Report Global Times Media Europe. It is noted that the recent comments of the leaders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reflect the ongoing disagreements within the regime and especially within the IRGC regarding the protests.Brigadier General Hamid Abazari said some military leaders were against values, the supreme leader and the regime, and believed they were discussing how to deal with the unrest.
Abazari also criticized officials for not publicly condemning the protests.Former BASIC chief Brigadier General Ghulam Hussain Gheib Parwar, now in charge of organizing and training elite counter-protest units, supported Abazari’s criticism.
The Iranian media named Abazari as an adviser to the commander of the IRGC, Major General Hossein Salami. On December 31, the public relations department of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a statement rejecting Abazari’s words and denying that he was an adviser to Salami.
In the statement, it was stated that Abazari expressed his personal opinion, but did not use reliable information.
Abazari’s statements show that there are divisions among senior officers within the SEPAH. Abazari noted that the commanders he mentioned participated in the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s and are now generals. Commanders of this generation are now in their 50s and 60s and tend to serve in the upper echelons of the armed forces.
