During the election campaign for the Jhelum Chamber of Commerce and Industry, independent candidate Raja Ali Ijaz and his brother Raja Suleman Shafi were attacked. Nouman Ashraf Dar was also present during the incident. Unknown individuals brutally assaulted Raja Ali Ijaz and Nouman Ashraf Dar and threatened to kill them. They were ordered to immediately stop the election campaign.
This incident is a great injustice to the business community. The police have registered an FIR regarding the incident, but the situation remains highly concerning for traders. All traders of the LPG industry have protested to the DPO Jhelum, demanding protection for their candidate and the immediate arrest of the culprits. They have warned that under such circumstances, it will be difficult to contest the elections and continue their business. The polling date has been set for September 18, 2024.
