Manchester: Labour’s candidate for the Greater Manchester mayoral by-election, Bev Craig, has officially launched her election campaign with the introduction of the “Bev Battle Bus,” signalling the start of an intensive campaign across the city-region.
As part of the campaign, Bev Craig was joined by the UK’s Deputy Prime Minister and Labour Deputy Leader, Lucy Powell MP, during a visit to the British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) in Manchester.
The event was attended by MP Afzal Khan, Councillor Ahmed Ali, Councillor Naeem Hassan, Councillor Muqaddas Bano, former Councillor Rabb Nawaz Akbar, Mehboob Elahi Butt, Labour Party members, volunteers, supporters, and a large gathering of local residents.
Addressing the audience, Lucy Powell said Labour had entered a new chapter under its current leadership and was focused on addressing the issues that matter most to local communities, including the cost of living, housing, jobs, and public services. She thanked party members and volunteers for their dedication and encouraged them to continue campaigning actively until polling day.
Bev Craig praised the efforts of Labour campaigners, describing the by-election as a crucial opportunity to shape the future of Greater Manchester. She outlined her key manifesto commitments, including free bus travel for young people aged 11 to 18, building more council and affordable homes, creating new employment opportunities, investing in local high streets, and improving community services.
She also described Greater Manchester’s diversity as one of its greatest strengths and urged supporters to continue engaging with voters across the region.
The event concluded with refreshments hosted by Nasser Mahmood OBE, Chairman of the British Muslim Heritage Centre, who welcomed guests, community leaders, volunteers, and campaign supporters.
With the Greater Manchester mayoral by-election approaching, political activity is intensifying as parties step up their campaigns to win the support of voters across the region.
