Rochdalemosque Council Chief Executive Nadeem Mir, in collaboration with Deeplish Community Centre Manager Sohail Ahmed, organized the third annual seminar to raise awareness about and tackle hate crime. Mayor Rochdale Faisal Rana, Superintendent of Police Muzammil Karnin, Director of Hope Academy Maqsood Ahmed, Councillor Muhammad Shafiq, Army of Kindness leader Shiraz – Syed Munir Chishti – Ghulam Rasool Shahzad and other prominent figures also participated. Police Superintendent Muzammil Karnin, Nadeem Mir and Maqsood Ahmed answered questions raised by the community. Certificates of appreciation were presented to people who have rendered outstanding services in the community. Mayor of Rochdale Faisal Rana said that the Muslim community is being subjected to hate crimes and it is our responsibility to inform the police so that it can be dealt with. It has no place in an interfaith and cultural community. Muzammil Karnan said that we are committed to protecting our community from hate crimes and it has no place in our society. Sohail Ahmed and others present at the seminar also reiterated the commitment that we will have to work together to deal with profit-making crimes.
The increase in the rate of hate crimes in the name of race, religion and culture in the UK is a deep concern in the multicultural community and the efforts of the Rochdale Mask Council to deal with it are commendable
