This is the first council in the UK to unanimously pass the resolution. Credit goes to the leadership of both parties and especially to Councilor Majid Khan and Councilor Javed Najmi who became Lord Mayor for the first time in the UK and Councilor Javed Najmi. The resolution was presented by Council Leader Jane Ashworth and fully supported by Conservative Party Councilor Faisal Hussain. The resolution, which was unanimously adopted, said that the innocent lives lost in the October 7 attack by Hamas and the military response by Israel are causing further loss of life on humanitarian grounds for the citizens of Gaza. An immediate ceasefire is very important. Now the death toll has reached thousands. There is a need to stop the bombing of hospitals, schools, ambulances, and places of worship. There is no safe place for innocent citizens. Thousands of protests have also been witnessed across the country. Carried – Resolution that in the end it was said that we need to vote to end the suffering of innocent civilians by demanding a permanent ceasefire. The council was very happy to pass the unanimous resolution on Gaza ceasefire – council leader Jane Ashworth, deputy leader Amjad Wazir, councilor Javed Najmi, young councilor Waseem Akbar and all Muslims and non-Muslims played an important role in passing the resolution.
