The Kashmir Youth Project Rochdale was organized by Deputy Leader of Rochdale Council Ali Adalat and Councillor Aftab Hussain to express solidarity with the Joint Public Action Committee established to recognize the fundamental rights and demands of the people of Azad Kashmir.

In addition to Amjad Ali Khan Advocate, member of the Joint Public Action Committee Azad Kashmir, prominent social and community figure Javed Akhtar, Deputy Mayor of Rochdale Councillor Faisal Rana, Councillor Professor Iftikhar Ahmed, Raqeeb Kashmiri and other prominent personalities participated. Amjad Ali Khan, a member of the Joint Public Action Committee Azad Kashmir, said that the state government has accepted our demands and issued a notification, but they have not been implemented. We have given six months’ time, but still the state government has not done anything about it. We have now announced a nationwide strike on September 29 across Azad Kashmir. We are part of the ongoing campaign in Azad Kashmir. There is concern among the Kashmiri community living in the UK because force was used last time too, but this time we will not allow it to happen. Deputy Leader Councilor Ali Adalat said that the government of Azad Kashmir should wake up and seriously address the demands of the Joint Public Action Committee and implement them. There is great concern among the Kashmiri community living in the UK because our friends, relatives, and loved ones live there and if they are tortured, we will not sit silent. Councilor Professor Iftikhar Ahmed said that we have gathered to express solidarity with the committee. The Joint Public Action Committee has been getting demands of public interest accepted for the last two years. But despite some demands being accepted, they have not been implemented yet. Javed Akhtar said that the Public Action Committee is the voice of the people of Azad Kashmir and we express complete solidarity with them. Deputy Mayor Councilor Faisal Rana said that the people have the right to peacefully protest for their rights. This is the only way through which you can raise your voice for your rights. I demand that the Azad Kashmir government listen to the legitimate demands and implement them. Councilor Aftab Hussain also demanded that the Azad Kashmir government accept the demands of the Public Action Committee and implement them. Rakib Kashmiri and others also expressed complete solidarity with the Public Action Committee and said that they demanded that the Azad Kashmir government accept the demands of the committee and implement them.

The efforts of the Joint Public Action Committee to ensure the fundamental rights of the people in Azad Kashmir and the legitimate use of state resources are commendable.
