According to Ug News news Agency Europe, In the third round of voting held in the Sejm of Latvia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Edgars Rinkevič was elected the President of Latvia. The Ug News Europe reports that 52 deputies of the Diet voted in favor of Edgars Rinkevich, whose candidacy was nominated by the “Yeni Birlik” bloc. A minimum of 51 votes was required to be elected president. The candidate of the “United List” Uldis Pilens won the support of only 25 deputies in the third round. In neither the first nor the second round, Rinkevich could not collect the necessary votes to be elected, he was supported by 42 deputies. The current president of Latvia, Egils Levits, did not run for a second term.
