Tameside Council, in collaboration with Ashton Central Mosque, held an Islamophobia awareness event at Hillgate Community Centre Ashton. Former Mayor Tameside Councillor Tafheen Sharif hosted the event. A large number of members of the local community attended. Other attendees included District Commander Police Chris Foster, Deputy Leader Councillor Andrew McLaren, Imam of the mosque Maulana Ghulam Mohiuddin, young politician Atta Rasool Chohan, community leader Nabila Akram, trustees Dr Akram, Haji Azram, Mirza, chairman of the trustees Azeem Butt, Naheed Ghafoor, councillor Naila Sharif, councillor Qalil Khan, councillor Sangeeta Patel, and Taimur. The event was held to mark Islamophobia Month, with former Mayor Tameside Councillor Tafheen Sharif and mosque trustee community leader Nabila Akram taking the lead. Participants discussed ways to tackle Islamophobia. Agreed to adopt a common strategy – The participation of people from different walks of life in the event was a positive step – Everyone said that when we move forward with mutual unity, agreement and solidarity, it will bring positive results –

The participation of people from different cultures and religions in one place in the International Month to Combat Islamophobia in the UK is encouraging – There is absolutely no room for hateful behavior based on color, race and religion in British society and the law also provides full protection for it
