
Manchester, United Kingdom — A distinguished and graceful literary gathering was held in Manchester in the presence of renowned Pakistani broadcaster, journalist, and eminent literary figure Mahpara Safdar. The event took place at the residence of Ms. Faiqa Gul, where several prominent personalities with a deep interest in literature, poetry, social awareness, and intellectual discourse came together.
Alongside Mahpara Safdar, the gathering was attended by her hosts and other respected guests, including Mr. Humayun Sahibzada, Ms. Asma Azam, well-known journalist Mehmood Asghar Chaudhry, and Muqaddasa Bano—a poet, writer, journalist, social and political activist, and Manchester City Councillor—as well as other notable personalities who had travelled from London.
The session unfolded in a warm, pleasant, and intellectually enriching atmosphere. Participants presented selected ghazals, poems, and literary works from their collections, creating a beautiful blend of creativity and literary excellence. Meaningful and thoughtful discussions were held on sensitive social, literary, and intellectual topics, making the gathering a truly memorable experience for all attendees.
Later in the evening, a tea reception was hosted at the residence of senior journalist Mehboob Elahi Butt. His wife graciously served a lavish tea accompanied by traditional winter delicacies, adding further charm and warmth to the occasion.
Prominent Manchester-based social figure Shehzad Mirza also attended the event and presented gifts to the esteemed guests and participants. All attendees expressed their heartfelt gratitude for his warmth and generosity.
A special note of appreciation was extended by Mahpara Safdar to Muhammad Hasnain, son of Councillor Muqaddasa Bano, who fulfilled his hosting duties with exceptional courtesy, elegance, and dedication. At the time of departure, Mahpara Safdar praised his love for reading and books, presented him with a signed copy of her acclaimed autobiography “Mera Zamana, Meri Kahani” (My Era, My Story), and warmly invited him to visit London.
Special thanks were also conveyed to London’s much-loved literary personality and poet Saeeda Kausar, who played a key role in making this gathering possible by travelling from London to Manchester with Mahpara Safdar and adding great value to the event.
At the time of farewell, Ms. Faiqa Gul and other participants presented gifts to Mahpara Safdar and Saeeda Kausar. The moments of goodbye were filled with affection, sincerity, appreciation, and heartfelt prayers for safe travels.
This literary meeting not only became a cherished memory but also left a lasting impression on the hearts of all participants. It is hoped that such gatherings will continue in the future, fostering meaningful dialogue on Urdu literature, social values, and intellectual themes, and allowing the literary community to benefit from these enriching interactions.
