Being among the world’s elite researchers is proof that high standards and excellence have no boundaries. Professor Dr. Zabta khan Shinwari’s speech at the ceremony
ISLAMABAD:(Special Representative)According to UG NEWS,In a prestigious ceremony celebrating national academic excellence, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan officially honored Professor Zabta Khan Shinwari, Vice Chancellor of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science & Technology (FUUAST), for his inclusion in the global ranking of the Top 2% of scientists.
The event, attended by the Chairperson of the HEC and distinguished researchers, highlighted the rising caliber of Pakistani innovation on the international stage.
A Testament to Merit and Visibility
During his address, Professor Shinwari emphasized that being ranked among the world’s elite researchers is a “testament to the fact that excellence knows no borders”. He noted that while scientific excellence is a researcher’s currency, global visibility is the true measure of impact.
“We do not conduct research in a vacuum; we do it to solve the riddles of nature and the challenges of humanity,” Shinwari stated, urging that for Pakistani innovation to contribute to universal knowledge, it must be shared boldly on the global stage.
HEC: The Bedrock of Scientific Progress
Professor Shinwari extended his deepest appreciation to the HEC for its role in fostering a culture of merit. He remarked that by recognizing milestones like the “Top 2%” ranking, the commission sends a powerful message that hard work and scientific integrity are celebrated in Pakistan. This support system, he noted, serves as the “bedrock upon which our scientific future is built”.
A Call to Action for Young Researchers
Addressing the next generation of scientists, Professor Shinwari outlined three pillars for a successful career in research:
Persistence: He reminded researchers that science is often “99% failure and 1% discovery” and encouraged them not to fear the null hypothesis.
Collaboration: Highlighting the end of the “lone genius” era, he stressed that breakthroughs occur at the intersection of different disciplines.
Ethics: He urged young scientists never to compromise their integrity, noting that “the world needs ‘good deeds’ as much as it needs ‘good data'”.
The Future of National Prosperity
In his closing remarks, Professor Shinwari linked the work done in laboratories directly to the future prosperity of Pakistan. He called for a continued push against the boundaries of possibility to ensure that Pakistani science serves both the nation and the global community.
