According to Ug News Media Europe,The UN Security Council held a meeting on the suffering of women in Afghanistan on March 8 – International Women’s Day.The US bureau of “Ug News Media Europe” informs that Roza Otunbayeva, the special representative of the UN Secretary General for Afghanistan, speaking at the meeting, said that women and girls in Afghanistan are in a terrible situation.
R. Otunbayeva said that Afghanistan under the rule of the Taliban remains the most repressive country in the world regarding women’s rights:”Prohibitions imposed by Taliban authorities on Afghan women working, studying, traveling without their spouses, and even going to parks or baths remain in place. Although the Taliban claims to unite the country, it has divided people into genders. At a time when the country needs human capital after decades of war, the country’s potential female doctors, scientists, journalists and politicians have been confined to their homes, their dreams dashed and their talents taken away. We cannot turn a blind eye to the desperation of Afghan women.”R. Otunbayeva said that the consequences of the Taliban’s ban on women’s work and education will be severe: “The Afghan people continue to suffer deeply. Afghanistan is experiencing a major humanitarian crisis on a global scale. Two-thirds of the population, or 28 million people, need humanitarian aid to survive this year. Almost half of the population, 20 million people, experience crisis levels of food insecurity. The humanitarian activities of the UN in the region are becoming more and more complicated, we are facing the problem of access and security in the regions. Bans on women working in humanitarian missions are a serious obstacle to reach vulnerable sections of the population.Despite all our efforts, the situation in the humanitarian field has worsened recently. The Taliban’s ban on women will create a financial crisis in the country. After the meeting of the UN Security Council, the representatives of the UN member countries wrote messages of support in front of the UN headquarters in New York in order to demonstrate their support for Afghan women on International Women’s Day.
