Today, on the afternoon of April 16, I had the honor of visiting Dr. Umair Mahmood Siddiqui at his institution, City of Knowledge, in Karachi. I had heard a great deal about him before, but this was my first opportunity to sit face-to-face and have a detailed conversation.
In addition to serving as an Associate Professor at the University of Karachi, he is affiliated with several international organizations such as the OIC, and has also served as a member of Pakistan’s Council of Islamic Ideology.
Despite his busy engagements both locally and internationally, he has specifically focused through City of Knowledge on the educated class, officers, and the elite group. His aim is to ensure that not only they but also their future generations remain firmly grounded in Islam, and that their minds are protected from doubts, misconceptions, and intellectual confusion.
Dr. Sahib has traveled to numerous countries for academic and research purposes, including Singapore, Canada, Qatar, Mauritius, Damascus, and Tunisia. He has authored more than twenty books, among which notable ones include The Prohibition of Takfir of Muslims, Ibn Arabi’s Concept of Prophethood and the Belief in Finality of Prophethood, and What Does Pakistan Mean?
In today’s era, where various efforts are being made to create intellectual confusion against Islam and Muslims, his work is truly commendable. Observing the environment of the institution made it evident that sincere efforts toward education and moral training are ongoing.
At the end of the meeting, he also recorded a beautiful podcast with me. The question discussed was how the younger generation can be protected from current and future challenges. I tried to answer to the best of my ability.
This question exists in the minds of all thoughtful individuals, as this era has become one of intellectual unrest and doubts. Baseless allegations are also being made against scholars and national figures in an attempt to alienate the youth from them. However, history bears witness that such elements have always emerged and ultimately faded away.
May Allah grant us the ability to recognize the value of our elders, highlight their contributions, and strive to protect our faith and future generations by keeping the company of righteous people.
